Still Lying To Yourself? Welcome To The Club...

I think most successes in life hinge on one incredibly important thing - being honest with yourself. At face value, there's nothing mind blowing about that statement because most of us would intuitively assume that it is true.

It is however, more difficult to put into practice. We often don't like hearing the truth from other people; much less dealing with the truths we finally have to admit to ourselves.

This blog is not about the philosophical merits of honesty.

So what am I even bringing this up?

Because you need to be real with yourself about your own bad habits.

I'll use myself as an example. I've never categorized myself as a morning person. If someone were to ask me, I'd tell them I am not a morning person.

Question: Is it that I don't like waking up early? Or am I doing a bunch of stuff the night before that makes getting up early more difficult?

Did I trade two hours of sleep for an extra two hours of watching Netflix while shoveling processed food into my face?

Maybe I did and I'm going to keep lying to myself about not being a morning person.

See what I'm getting at?

It's easy enough to explain away a bad habit just by proclaiming yourself to be a certain way.

I compare this to people that just say "Well this is how I am take it or leave it." We all know at least one person like this and if you're anything like me, you try and muster up every ounce of self-control to not Serena Williams them with a non-stick skillet.

Why do those people irritate everyone? Because we intuitively know that change is possible. The caveat is that it is also not entirely probable.

From this point forward don't think of things strictly in terms of whether you will or won't do it.

This point that I really want you to focus on is on increasing the likelihood that you will do the things required to get in better shape.

Ask yourself: How do I increase the probability that I will do, X,Y, or Z?

This feeds into my cornerstone theory of, what I like to call, "Crafted Convenience".
